Filmmaking, Minus the Camera

"How to Make Your Movie," which had its premiere demonstration at this year's San Francisco International Film Festival, is certainly as dense and inspirational as film school should be. While strolling through the hallways of a "virtual" film school, one can click on doorways, posters, and various other icons that lead to text or video clips about a given subject."

"The thread that runs through the interactive course is a student production called ‘Pasta Paolo.' Each step of the filmmaking process is supported with examples from the making of this film. At the end of the course, each student is instructed to make his/her own edited version of ‘Pasta Paolo,' employing all the skills learned from the CD-ROM."

"With so much material to read, the natural tendency is to try to take it all in during the first afternoon. But, as in any worthwhile endeavor, one should invest meaningful amounts of time in order to fully digest and understand it."
